I remember vividly a couple of weeks into the 2020 primary season when it seemed Joe Biden was in serious trouble. The campaign tent appeared to be collapsing around him. He resembled the same old man we see today: barely hanging on after a disappointing 4th place finish behind Pete Buttigieg, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren in Iowa, followed by a lackluster 5th place in New Hampshire.
He got smoked in Nevada and was on the ropes. The calls came in from the "political analysis across the board, both sides of the aisle, and people like Bloomberg NEEDS TO DROP OUT SO WE CAN HAVE ONE CANDIDATE TO FACE OFF AGAINST SCARY LIBERAL BERNIE!" The numbers were looking bad...well, you know the rest. Biden's advantage in SC held strong, and within 2 minutes of the polls closing, the Joementum there saved his candidacy - he went on to win the state by nearly 30 points and the rest of the race was history, an easy Biden victory that never saw any of the 10+ other candidates even come close to him, and he was the presumptive nominee 4 months prior to the primary.
Why the **** would we ask him to drop out now? Do you think anyone in our party could step in RIGHT NOW and win? Hillary Clinton? She already won - and still wasn't inaugurated as President. Gavin Newsom? Yea, I am sure there are a few skeletons in his closet just ready to pop out.
Joe Biden is going to be fine.
Joe Biden will weather the storm. He'll be re-elected, and perhaps, a month into his second term, we'll hear a news announcement: "Former President and current federal inmate Donald Trump diagnosed with age-related dementia." Until then, let's keep fighting, arguing, and believing. Democrats don't do scared; we're the party of resilience. Unlike the Republicans, we champion active participation and progress.
We'll all breathe a sign of relief and be happy we dodged that bullet. But until then. Keep fighting, keep arguing, keep believing. Democrat's don't do scared - we aren't the party of old. We're the party of winning 7 out of the last 8 popular votes in Presidential and congressional elections. We are giving the people what they want - the Republicans want you to sit down, shut up, and never vote again.
